This is an urgent appeal for a new foster home for Rudey. You must be able to take him out for long walks as he is full of energy and needs to lose weight. He cannot live with cats. Could you help Rudey?
We need to find a new foster home for Rudey. He is a 12-year-old Dachshund x Chihuahua who came into rescue due to his owner’s ill health.
Rudey is overweight (currently 4.5 kg) so needs a sensible diet and lots of walking. He is a very energetic little chap and he is so excited to get out for walks. When he sees other dogs, he barks with the fun of it all and is desperate to get to them to play. You will need to have the time and energy to walk Rudey, at least twice a day, and be confident to deal with his excitement. Over time he should gradually become calmer, and slimmer!
Rudey has lived with another dog, and he should be fine to live with an active dog. They would need to fed separately though as he will steal another dog’s food, given the opportunity. He must have a nice secure garden to enjoy.
He needs a cat-free home. Rudey isn’t used to living with children, but older visiting children should be fine. He should be OK to be left for a couple of hours, once he has settled in. He is fine in the car and is used to travelling on the back seat, wearing a harness.
His current foster carers describe Rudey as loveable and friendly. Could you offer him a new foster home?
Although we are initially seeking a foster home, we would be very happy to hear from anyone wanting to foster Rudey with a view to subsequent adoption.

Rudey is currently in Devon, but Oldies Club will arrange transport to the foster home – the closer to Devon the better, of course – and will cover the cost of any medical care Rudey might need while he is in foster. You can read more about fostering for Oldies Club here.
