4/7/20 – Bonnie has gone to her new home!
Pretty Bonnie is a 12-year-old Westie girl who came into the Oldies Club rescue as her owner could no longer care for her. She is in an Oldies Club foster home in Romsey, Hampshire, waiting for someone to offer her a wonderful new permanent home.
Her ideal home: Bonnie would be perfect for someone who wants a dog to take out for a couple of slow wanders a day and then snuggle up on the sofa with. She enjoys having company but equally is quite happy to settle down if you go out after she has had a walk. She could live as an only dog, or with another dog, and should be fine with a cat too. You may notice we only have one photo here of Bonnie standing up. She does love to relax and truly has mastered the art of repose.
A good girl in foster: Bonnie settled at her foster home within 3-4 weeks and she is proving to be a lovely girl to have around.
Can be left for a few hours: Bonnie has been fine to be left for up to 3 hours but she would prefer a home where she won’t be left for too long too often. She enjoys company but does mainly snooze throughout the day.
Excellent with other dogs: Bonnie likes other dogs and is very friendly with them.
Seems fine with cats: Bonnie’s foster carer has a cat who stays out of the way, but Bonnie has seen it and just wants to say hello. Out and about, Bonnie ignores cats.
Could live with older children: Bonnie has been good with visiting children and has been happy to be fussed. She is a very gentle and sweet-natured dog who hasn’t got a bad bone in her body, but she is deaf and could possibly be easily startled by a child, so we think that she would be better either in an adult-only home where there may be visiting grandchildren, or a home with older children (aged 12+) who are dog-savvy and understand that Bonnie is an older lady and is deaf.
Enjoys a slow walk: Bonnie can’t walk fast because she is quite overweight and unfit at the moment. She is currently going for a third-of-a-mile stroll, which takes about 30 minutes. The rest of the way she travels in her buggy, which she loves. There has been a vast improvement in Bonnie’s fitness since she arrived, and as she gets fitter and loses more weight she will probably enjoy slightly longer walks. She doesn’t pull on the lead and she isn’t let off the lead as she would just wander off in her own little world.
Good in the car: Bonnie is a good little traveller.
Bonnie’s favourite pastimes: She gets very excited when she knows she’s going out for a walk. She enjoys sleeping but she’s not really a lap dog – she prefers to snuggle up next to you on the sofa. Despite being a lady of repose, she does have a funny, playful 5 minutes when you return home. She also likes sitting in the garden sunbathing. When the summer comes, she would love to spend time in the garden with her new owner.
Health notes: Bonnie is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, and has been wormed and flea treated. Bonnie has typical Westie skin and she has been prescribed Apoquel tablets which she will need to stay on. This medication is working and her skin looks really good now. She is having Hills Metabolic Diet to help her lose her weight and she does enjoy this food. If her skin flares up she may need to have medicated baths.
Bonnie’s foster carer also told us: “Bonnie is adorable, gentle, funny and stubborn. Although Bonnie appeared to settle in very quickly, we initially had a lot of accidents and, in hindsight, I think this was due to the stress of being moved. I think she will temporarily regress when moved to her forever home and will need to be put outside every hour to help minimise this. The accidents lasted for about 3 weeks. In every other way she is the easiest and most pleasurable dog to foster and be around – you just can’t help but love her. She is full of character, can be stubborn at times but will make you laugh and smile every day.”

Bonnie can be rehomed anywhere on the UK mainland, subject to a satisfactory home visit, but note that you will be required to travel to the foster home to meet her.
