Super cute little Tia is a tan/black, 8 year old Chihuahua Cross bitch weighing just over 7 kg. She’s a little bigger and longer-legged than a purebred Chihuahua. She has lived in the same home with another dog all her life. Treated as the ‘baby of the family’, her anxious, unsettled behaviour was always accommodated until a real baby arrived, and then another shortly afterwards. Coming into the care of Chilterns Dog Rescue Society in Hertfordshire has been the best thing for her.

Staff at CDRS have worked tirelessly to bring out the best in Tia and the transformation in her demeanour and behaviour is remarkable. She is becoming a much more confident, obedient little dog who is coming forward to meet unfamiliar people instead of backing away and barking.

Tia walks well on the lead both by herself and with other dogs and is happy to be brushed and handled by people she knows, although vets aren’t her favourite. Tia is happy to be left alone for a few hours but would prefer company for much of the day. She has done only a small amount of travelling by car but could easily get more used to regular trips out or longer journeys.

As small and pretty as Tia is, she would only be suited to someone with experience of rehabilitating anxious dogs as the progress she has made so far will need to encouraged and worked on for some considerable time. A quiet home with a compatible dog(s) would be ideal so she has positive role models around her, or even a home as an only dog, but no children please.

Tia is very active for an older dog but lots of on-lead walking in different environments and opportunities to run and play off-lead in a secure area are helping to build positive relationships with her carers, build her confidence and social skills and reduce her overall anxiety.

In spite of the legacy of a poor first half to her life, Tia is a sweet, obedient dog who is doing her very best to leave her past behind her and enjoy a life more suited to this highly intelligent, active and engaging type of dog. She has been spayed and has no known medical conditions.
