5 August 2014 ~ We’re very sad to update this page with the news that Snowy has passed away. Our thoughts are with his foster family, who welcomed him into their home and really made him a part of their family. Snowy was a big character in a little dog and has had many adventures during his time with Oldies Club. We are sure he has gone to Rainbow Bridge with many wonderful memories. Run free Snowy.

Snowy Westie Aka “Snowy Sausage” (read on for the sausage saga) is a little chap around 15 or 16 years old who came into Oldies Club care at the end of 2009 when his owner became ill. He was rehomed in 2010 but arrived back in Oldies Club care in 2011 after a marriage breakup.

Snowy is not the easiest of dogs plus he suffers from arthritis and has had a cruciate ligament operation. So due to concerns about finding him the right forever home, Oldies Club decided it would be in his interest to remain as a permanent foster dog in our sponsor scheme.

Is that a sausage?

Sausages figure largely in Snowy’s life and his love for them has led to him being nicknamed Snowy Sausage! Apparently he would happily eat them all day if possible and if he is having a grumpy moment then the lure of a sausage is enough to bring him round :)

Here’s a summary of the little sausage lover from his foster mum:-
Snowy is such a character with his funny ways, he follows you round everywhere hoping you’re going to give him a treat I think. He yodels if he wants your attention or to go out for a wee wee, he loves his walks and sniffing and it takes forever to do a short walk (only because he sniffs every blade of grass) and we can be out over an hour. He’s living with other dogs and we think it’s actually good for him after being on his own for so long. He does try to get the treats first though and has to be told to wait his turn.

He doesn’t ask for much (just lots of sausages) and when he’s had his tea in the evening he goes and snuggles in his comfy crate and sleeps till it’s time for his last wee then sleeps through the night no problem. He can get stiff and wobbly if out too long but can still manage to jump off the step as I found out when bending down tying my boot laces and he flew off and bashed me in the nose (no harm done but it did hurt for a bit, lol) . He can struggle sitting/lying down but we just let him get on with it and potter when he wants, sleep when he wants but not eat sausages when he wants (which would be all the time).
I have to be very quiet as when he hears my voice he’s out of his bed, comes up and sniffs your leg and then starts wagging his tail when he knows it’s you and follows me round until he gets the message that nothing is forthcoming so goes back to bed, lol. He can get grumpy if you accidentally stand on him (with him being at your feet a lot) but have got used to always looking down now before moving.
He loves being stroked especially round his head and ears and he loves rubbing his head on your legs when you’re peeling the veg etc. He’s good in the car and loves going for rides out, he could get grumpy being lifted but had no trouble as guess what (we use sausages, lol)

If you would love to offer a home to an oldie but your circumstances aren’t suitable, perhaps you would be kind enough to sponsor Snowy or one of the other special oldies we are caring for that, due to health problems, are unlikely to be offered a permanent home.
