4 March 2014 – We are very sad to have to update this page with the news that dear Twiggy has passed away :-( Twiggy was at home with her family. One moment she was pottering around the garden, the next moment she had gone. We are very grateful to her family for welcoming Twiggy into their home as a sponsor dog and our thoughts are very much with them at this sad time. Sleep tight little one.

Twiggy is a very sweet, timid, little seventeen year old Jack Russell Terrier (JRT) who came into Oldies Club care at the start of August 2013. She was much loved and cared for by her previous owner, from being a tiny puppy to a still tiny older lady. As time went by Twiggy lost her hearing and most of her sight, but all was well as she was in a familiar place and with a ‘mum’ who adored her. Twiggy’s previous owner became very ill and sadly passed away and so Twiggy was being left home alone.

She has had a vet check-up to ensure that she was ok to move into Oldies Club care.

Twiggy has the sweetest nature and is slowly beginning to enjoy life with her fosterers, but the upheaval has been hard for her and so Oldies Club has decided it is in her best interest to place her in our sponsor dog scheme, to avoid further upset. This means Twiggy will remain in her foster home permanently, with Oldies Club covering her vet bills for the rest of her life. Needless to say, her fosterers are delighted to love and care for such a lovely, loving lady, and we all hope she will enjoy life with them for a long time to come.

Beautiful little Twiggy is living in a foster home with Maisie, another Oldies Club sponsor dog. Twiggy was very timid and skinny upon arrival, but had a good night’s sleep and then scoffed some breakfast, supervised closely by Maisie.  Poor Twiggy was all skin and bone when she arrived, but she started eating really well in her foster home, and thankfully has started to fill out a bit now.  Her foster mum said in the initial days that Twiggy was still very nervous, although she did offer a mini tail wag in greeting and stopped pacing up and down on the path by the back door after a few days.

Twiggy’s coat has improved since she arrived in foster care and she seems to be finding it easier to move around now. She still seems to be finding life hard and is adjusting to her foster home. She is being given Scullcap and valerian to help her.
Twiggy isn’t currently very keen on interacting with other dogs, although she is happy enough to have them around and she does seem to enjoy little Maisie’s company. She is not yet seeking cuddles, but she has shown a wagging tail a few times.
At her time of life Twiggy deserves to be looked after and cared for in a place that she feels safe in.  Thankfully she has found that place in her lovely foster home with another little elderly dog for company.
If you would love to offer a home to an oldie but your circumstances aren’t suitable, perhaps you would be kind enough to sponsor Twiggy or one of the other special oldies we are caring for in our sponsor dog scheme.
